Google Business Profile: The Free Tool Most Indian Businesses Are Ignoring

Digital Transformation & Marketing2026-09-23·4 min read·VP23ARK

The highest-ROI free marketing tool most businesses ignore.

If you run any kind of local or regional business in India — a manufacturer, a service provider, a retailer, a clinic, a salon — and you haven't claimed and optimised your Google Business Profile, you are leaving free, high-intent traffic on the table every single day.

This takes 30 minutes to fix. Here's how.

What Google Business Profile actually is

When someone searches "supplement manufacturer Delhi" or "digital marketing agency NCR" on Google, the results that appear in the map section (the "local pack") — with a star rating, address, phone number, and hours — those are Google Business Profiles.

It's free. Google provides it. And it puts your business in front of people who are actively searching for what you offer, in your location, right now.

Why most businesses have a bad (or missing) profile

Unclaimed profiles. Google sometimes auto-creates a basic profile for businesses based on public information. If you haven't claimed it, you can't control what it says — and it often has wrong information.

Incomplete profiles. A profile with no photos, no business description, incorrect hours, and no reviews performs poorly in local search rankings. Google rewards complete, active profiles.

No reviews. Reviews are one of the most significant ranking signals for local search. A business with 50 genuine 4-5 star reviews will consistently outrank a competitor with none, even with an otherwise similar profile.

No posts. Google Business lets you post updates, offers, and announcements — directly in search results. Almost no small businesses use this feature. It's free differentiation.

How to optimise your Google Business Profile in 30 minutes

Step 1 — Claim your profile. Search your business name on Google. If a profile exists, claim it. If not, create one at business.google.com. Verification takes 1–5 days (usually a postcard or phone call from Google).

Step 2 — Complete every field. Business name, category (be specific), address, phone, website, hours, and a 750-character business description. Use relevant keywords naturally. For a nutraceutical manufacturer: "contract manufacturing," "private label supplements," "Delhi NCR," "nutraceuticals."

Step 3 — Add photos. Businesses with photos receive significantly more clicks and direction requests than those without. Add at least: your exterior, your team or workspace, your products or service output. Minimum 10 photos.

Step 4 — Start collecting reviews. Ask every satisfied client or customer to leave a Google review. Send them the direct link (available in your Business Profile dashboard). Respond to every review — positive and negative.

Step 5 — Post regularly. Use the Posts feature to share updates, new services, case studies, or blog articles. Once a week is plenty. It signals to Google that the business is active.

What to expect

Within 30–60 days of a fully optimised, active profile with reviews, most businesses see measurable increases in search impressions and website clicks from local search. For service-area businesses in Delhi NCR searching "near me" or "[service] [city]," this can be a significant source of inbound leads — at zero ongoing cost.
